Varya lives with her grandmother, works part-time as a tutor for the son of a local businessman Vadim, is preparing to enter graduate school and dreams of a wedding: her fiancé Tolik went to Moscow to earn money. However, her plans were not destined to come true - the resourceful Tolik returned with a new Muscovite bride. The graduate school exams were failed, and my grandmother urgently needs surgery. Varya is supported by Vadim, who has always liked her. To spite Tolik, she accepts his help and courtship. The wedding is not far off - Vadim promises that it will be "like behind a stone wall." But life with an unloved husband and someone else's son is not much like a fairy tale: the boy takes Varya with hostility, and Vadim begins to find fault with every reason...
