Law-abiding citizen Elena Meglitskaya, the wife of the director of a large company, is invited to court as a juror in a high-profile criminal case of contract killings. Seeing the accused in the courtroom, Elena recognizes him as her old lover Dmitry Kornilov. Elena casts her deciding vote in his favor and the court acquits Dmitry.Soon Elena realizes that she was wrong to give in to her old feelings. Kornilov is a criminal. Investigator Rudin, who is "digging" under Kornilov, gets bogged down in a fabricated case against him. Kornilov forces Elena to commit a scam, she is driven into a corner... Left with nothing, Elena decides to bring Kornilov to justice.
